This list of determinations of specimens collected by Tepper in February and March 1886 at Kangaroo Island, SA, is dated to October 1886 as the latest likely date it would have been sent. The dating is also partly based on M to O. Tepper, 10 October 1886, in which M asked Tepper for a further specimen of number 125, the next highest number after those in this list. The specimen numbers in this list do not follow on immediately from earlier known determinations of specimens from the trip in February and March. It is possible that the list is the one mentioned in M to O. Tepper, 26 April 1886; however, it is known that some letters from M are missing, and the high specimen numbers here make April a less likely date than one nearer October. The list is very unlikely to have been sent after M received specimens from Tepper's November visit to Kangaroo Island; these reached M on 13 December and he began immediately to work up previously unknown species (M to O. Tepper, 13 December 1886).

In the volume of M's letters arranged by Tepper, this item is indicated in the table of contents merely as 'list', and the item itself is not annotated. It is bound near letters dealing with specimens from Kangaroo Island collected by Tepper in November 1886, the numbering of which is a new series of which numbers between 2 and 328 are preserved at MEL, with some gaps.
