MS envelope front: 'P. Dattari Esqr &c &c | Ballarat Cottage | Station Street | North
Carlton'. Envelope dated 7 September 1886.
Please accept the byefollowing map of New Guinea, dear Mr Dattari, as it will be useful
for your purposes. With Capt Bové I have corresponded some time ago concerning his
proposed expedition from Argentina to Graham's Land and other antarctic regions.

The Italian naval officer Giacomo Bové sought unsuccessfully to launch an exploring
expedition to Antarctica. With funding from the Government of Argentina, he undertook
some useful surveying in Tierra del Fuego, but was unable to go any further south.
If you have still a few copies of the admirable illustration and description of the
magnificent Coleopter
to spare for me, I shall be particularly grateful to you.

At the meeting of the Field Naturalists' Club of Victoria, 12 June (sic; July) 1886, the 'hon. librarian reported the receipt of the following donations
to the library:— "Remarks on the new Australian beetle,
Phalacrognathus Muelleri", with colored plate, by Mr. P. Dattari, from the author' (Victorian naturalist, vol. 3, p. 37). The paper had been read at the meeting of 14 June, at which members
present were given lithographic plates (Victorian naturalist, vol. 3, p. 26), but no published version has been found. The genus had been described
in Macleay (1886b), p. 474, issued 21 December 1885 (Anonymous (1929)).
Regardfully your
Ferd. von Mueller.
