Mit heutiger Post sende ich Ihnen, hochgeehrter Herr Professor, ein Packet Cucurbitaceen, denkend dass Sie gern neuere Materialien durchsehen möchten, um für Ihre schöne Monographie in D.C. gelegentliche Nachträge zu liefern.
Eigentlich beabsichtigte ich diese Pflanzen selbst zu bearbeiten, geben Sie aber, damit Sie in soweit auch fürder von mir unterstützt werden.

Mit tiefem Bedauern erhielt ich durch die Journale Kunde vom Tode unseres ausgezeichneten Freundes Morren; ich wähnte ihn noch so rüstig, und so kam mir die Nachricht von diesem grossen Verlust für die Pflanzenkunde u Horticultur ganz unerwartet. Drücken Sie den Seinigen gelegentlich meine tiefe Condolenz aus.

I shall be pleased, if you would send me the notes about the New Guinea plants for the next part of my Papuan Plants.

In the previous part of Papuan plants (B86.06.03, p. 10), M listed Alsomitra Beccariana from Cogniaux (1881). In a later part (B90.05.01, p. 63) he listed Alsomitra muelleri and, as unpublished, Melothria papuana, although the latter had in fact been published in Cogniaux (1887), p. 355, using specimens collected by Bauerlen and communicated by M. Cogniaux (1887) also included the Queensland species Trichosanthes muelleri, (pp 346-7), collected by Palmer and sent by M in 1886, as well as species and varieties from Queensland collected by Perseih and apparently from M's own collection at the Gulf of Carpentaria, presumably during the North Australian Exploring Expedition, 1855-6.
With deep regret I received information through the journals of the death of our excellent friend Morren. I imagined him still so hale and hearty and so the news of this great loss for botany and horticulture came to me quite unexpectedly. At your convenience express my deep condolence to his relatives.
