Dear Sir
I have the honour by direction of the Chancellor again to request the favour or your
services as Examiner in Natural History for the Examinations which are to take place
in Michaelmas Term. At the same time, the Chancellor desires me to convey to you the
thanks of the Senate for your past services in that capacity.

M is not mentioned as an Examiner in earlier letters or the preceding minutes of the
Professorial Board. Nor is he listed as an Examiner in the University's Calendar of 1887, so it is not clear whether he undertook the duties referred to in this letter.
