Letter not found. The text given here is from 'Forestry', Daily evening bulletin (San Francisco), 10 August 1886, p. 2. The text is followed by: ‘In consequence of the difficulties experienced by the State Board in establishing the experimental farm in Merced county, these seeds will not be planted by the Commission, but turned over to the care of the gardener at the State University. Certain rare forest seeds will be sent to Baron Von Mueller in exchange.’ The same report was published in Daily Alta Californian, 11 August 1886, p, 2, under the heading 'Forestry'.
The latest date that M’s package and the letter that presumably accompanied it could have been sent to arrive in San Francisco in time to be reported in early August would have been in early July 1886.
[Sands W. Forman, Secretary of the State Board of Forestry, has received from Baron Ferd. Von Mueller of the Phytologic Museum of Melbourne, a package containing seeds of about thirty varieties of eucalyptus, some of which have never been introduced in this country.]
