The encroachment of the sands of the sea have spoiled a large area of valuable land along the southern coasts of the colony, which few attempts have been made to check, though only a matter of labor and no great expense. Our Government Botanist has taken great pains to give instructions for remedying the evil, and has furnished the names of numerous plants of various families that are effectual for the purpose, as well as a quantity of seeds to persons interested. We learn the park ranger of Belfast Mr. S. Avery, has been experimenting on the sands in that neighborhood, and …
