Our Flinders [Vic] correspondent reports that the "Bathurst burr" has made its appearance, and is spreading in that locality. On the sea-shore—Crown lands—growing amongst the Scotch thistles, it is often confounded with them, owing to its spiny and outward resemblance. Some of the plants seen in the district attain a height of from 2ft. to 3ft.
[A communication received from Baron von Mueller on the subject recommends "that the plant should be cut before it comes into fruit, and places where it occurs be scarified and sown with strong perennial grasses and fodder herbs, which will help to suffocate the plant in any new up growth."]
