Besten Dank, hochgeehrter Herr Professor, für Ihre grosse Güte, die letzten Sendungen von Algen benannt zu haben.

Vor einer Reihe Jahren machte ich einen Herrn in Adelaide darauf aufmerksam, dass die Algen, welche in der Encounter-Bay vorkommen, gesammelt werden sollten, und da ich ihn unter sehr bedeutende Verpflichtungen gestellt, so erwartete ich, dass er mir das Material zuwenden würde. Er hat sich aber auch in anderer Weise gegen mich in hohem Grade undankbar bewiesen, — wenigstens glaube ich, dass es dieselbe Person ist, welche wohl die Algen nach Kew sandte. Hätte ich nicht davon gesprochen, wären sicher diese Sammlungen nicht gemacht. Ich freue mich aber sehr, dass diese Algen nun auch in Ihre Meisterhand gelangt sind.

Hierbei ein paar eigentlich werthlose Sachen; aber für phytogeographische Bermerkungen mögen solche doch nützen.

should be collected and, since I put him under very significant obligations, I expected that he would let me have the material. But he has also in other ways proved himself ungrateful towards me to a high degree, — at least I think that it is the same person, who probably sent the algae to Kew. Had I not spoken about it, these collections would certainly not have been made. But I am very pleased that these algae have now also fallen into your masterly hand.

I enclose a couple of really worthless things, but they may yet be of use for phytogeographical observations.
