Wenn dieser Brief bei Ihnen eintrifft, edler Freund, wird es Neujahr sein; nehmen Sie für das Wohl und Glück Ihrerselbst u der Ihren im neuen annuellen Zeitabschnitt meinen besten Wunsch hin. Einige elegante Bände an die Kais. Privatbibliothek werden abgehen als ein geringes Dankzeichen, sobald der Atlas der Myoporinen fertig ist, der sich der Vollendung naht. Die Fly-River Exped ist eben glücklich heimgekehrt; eine der schönsten Pflanzen soll Ihnen gewidmet werden, als eine nachträgliche Festgabe zum 70st Geburtstag, in dem Datum von welchem ich mich irrte. Auf diese Widmung hin wird Ihr geehrter Name ja dann auch mit der Fora Neu Guinea's verflochten sein. Ein Packet seltener austral Pflanzen wird Ihnen auch demnächst direkt zugehen; ob ich Papuanische Pflanzen abzugeben haben werde,[- ]noch sind solche nicht in meinen Händen [-] ist zweifelhaft, da von jeder Art wohl nur wenig gesammelt ist, u. dies zwischen Sydney u Melbourne getheilt werden muss.

When this letter reaches you, noble friend, it will be New Year. Accept my best wishes for the welfare and happiness of yourself and yours in this new annual time period. Some elegant volumes will be dispatched to the private Imperial library as a small token of my gratitude, as soon as the atlas of the Myoporinae, which is nearing completion, is ready.

has just returned safe and sound; one of the most beautiful plants is to be dedicated to you as a belated gift for the celebration of your 70th birthday, because of the mistake I made in its date.

Regel celebrated his 70th birthday on 13 August 1885.
As a result of this dedication your honoured name will also be entwined with the flora of New Guinea.

A packet of rare Australian plants will shortly be sent to you directly ; whether I shall have any Papuan plants to give away — they are not yet to hand — is doubtful, as little material only has been collected of each species, and this has to be divided between Sydney and Melbourne.
