Letter not found. The text given here is from 'Congratulatory telegrams' in 'Return of the Explorers', Australian town and country journal (Sydney), 28 November 1858, p. 10. It is dated from a less full reference to it in 'The Geographic Society's Expedition', Sydney morning herald, 25 November 1885, p. 9. See also ML MSS.774/1 General and Administrative Council minute book, Royal Geographical Society of Australasia (NSW Branch) papers, Mitchell Library, Sydney, which records that at the Council meeting of 24 November 1885, 'Telegrams were received & read from Baron von Mueller & Sir Samuel Davenport of South Australia conveying congratulations at the safety of the Expedition.'
[Sir Edward Strickland received a telegram from Baron von Mueller, president of the Victorian branch, congratulating the society on the news as to the safety of Captain Everill's party;
