Sir,
With reference to the 5th Clause of the Regulations relating to Temporary Employment
under Section 33 of the Public Service Act 1883,
I have the honor to request you will be good enough to advise me of the date upon
which any person under you shall cease to be employed under the provisions of that
Section and I am further to request that you will at the same time notify whether
the services of such person have been satisfactorily rendered

Section 33 of the Act limited the duration of temporary employment to three months
and prohibited re-employment within three months. The related regulations were published
in the Third Supplement to the Victorian Government Gazette, 31 December 1884, an issue containing the Proclamation bringing the Act into effect
and the various necessary regulations concerned with the generality of employment
conditions and with the operation of specific sections of the Act. Section 5 of the
'Regulations. Temporary Employment' made under the Act reiterated the duration of
employment 'which shall in no case extend beyond three months from the date of such
employment' (p. 3640).
