The text given here is a report of the visit of the Governor, Sir Henry Loch, to the Ballarat School of Mines on 8 October 1885, where he presented certificates to students, including in Materia medica and botany, before inspecting the premises and attending a banquet, in Ballarat star, 9 October 1885, p. 3. M was an examiner; see, for example, W. Barnard to M, 21 February 1881, and A. Berry to M, 21 August 1886 (in this edition as 86-08-21b).
