My dear Sir Ferdinand
You will most probably recollect me sending you a specimen of, what I took to be, a new species of Eucalyptus from this place; about two months ago,

it was then only showing the blossom buds, in an immature state. I am now in this district again and hoped to find the tree in bloom but regret to find myself too late I however send you a specimen again, the best I can procure, upon which I shall feel much obliged for your highly valued opinion. The bark of this tree very closely resembles that of

E. hemiphloia?
(Grey box) but it is more persistent; only the very smaller branches being deciduous. The tree is of rather upright habit and attains to about 120 feet by a diameter from 2 to 3 feet, the wood which is of a dark red resembling that of Grey gum, seems hard and durable.
I have not heard from those of my friends to whom I wrote some time ago to request them to procure you some small plants, from the north-western interior — also some water weeds from some of our northern rivers but hope that my requests have been attended with some results.
