My dear Sir Ferdinand
You will most probably recollect me sending you a specimen of, what I took to be,
a new species of Eucalyptus from this place; about two months ago,
it was then only showing the blossom buds, in an immature state. I am now in this
district again and hoped to find the tree in bloom but regret to find myself
too
late
I however send you a specimen again, the best I can procure, upon which I shall feel
much obliged for your highly valued opinion. The bark of this tree very closely resembles
that of
(Grey box) but it is more persistent; only the very smaller branches being deciduous.
The tree is of rather upright habit and attains to about 120 feet by a diameter from
2 to 3 feet, the wood which is of a
dark
red
resembling that of Grey gum, seems hard and durable.

E. hemiphloia?
I have not heard from those of my friends to whom I wrote some time ago to request
them to procure you some small plants, from the north-western interior — also some
water weeds from some of our northern rivers but hope that my requests have been attended
with some results.
Trusting this may find you quite well
Believe me
My dear Sir Ferdinand
Yours faithfully
Augustus Rudder
