MS bound into a copy of B81.01.04 inscribed: 'To Major Ellery, FRS F.R.A.S., Director
of the Observatory &c. a small souvenir from the author of this unpretensive volume.
July 1885.' The copy is one of three at MEL, catalogued as REF 81.13.10.

On p. 364 of the work, which is the Sydney edition of M's Select extra-tropical plants, there appears a 'Table of Average Annual Rainfall and Temperature at Stations in
New South Wales'. The equivalent information, 'Furnished by the Melbourne Observatory',
appears in the new Victorian edition, B85.12.03, on pp. 413 (averages and extremes
of temperature) and 414-5 (average annual rainfall); Ellery, as Government Astronomer,
was head of Victoria's meteorological service.
