Chief Secretary's Office
Melbourne 26th June 1885.
Sir,
With reference to the Estimates of Expenditure of this Division for the Year 1885/6, I beg to request that you will state for the information of the Honorable the Chief Secretary, that proportion of the increase of the expenditure for salaries and wages (as compared with the same voted for 1884-5) is owing to the increase in the number of officers, and what to increased classification.
I shall be glad if you will also state the amount by which the expenditure would be reduced if the officers, the classification of whose work has been lowered by the Public Service Board, were provided for on the Estimates at the reduced rate of the class in which their duties have been placed
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient Servant,
T. R. Wilson
