Im hohen Grade war ich erfreuet, edler Herr, über die gütigen Zeilen, welche Sie mir am 30 Apr. schrieben; u. ich bin Dankesvoll für alle die Mühe, welche ein so erhabener Kenner — wie Sie — auf meine Algen-Sendungen verwendet; u. ich bin auch froh, dass doch einiges Neue sich darunter findet, um die Arbeit auch für Sie selbst etwas lohnend zu machen.

Ich habe sogleich an Miss Brooke Mittheilung gemacht über die ihr gewidmete , u. ihr das Ex. gesandt, um sie zum Weitersammeln anzufeuern. Sie glauben nicht, verehrter Freund, wie schwer es mir wird, Interesse irgendwo in Australien überhaupt für das Pflanzen Sammeln zu erwecken, und dann auch das Interesse wach zu halten!

Es erfordert Tausende von Briefen um etwas zu erreichen. Unter den sehr wenigen Ausnahmen in dieser Beziehung ist Mr. Bracebridge Wilson; er schickte eben erst Anfangs dieses Monats seine diesjährige Ausbeute an Algen, die ich sofort an Sie weiter gesandt habe. Offenbar sind mehrere neue Formen dabei.

Die Liste der von Ihnen in neuester Zeit untersuchten Algen wird meine geogr. Aufzählung bedeutend vergrössern, wofür ich Ihnen sehr verpflichtet bin. Leider ist der Druck der Supplement-Liste der Austral Evasculares noch immer nicht begonnen für den 12 Bd. der Fragm. Ich werde alle Küsten Sammler bitten, Algen fort zu sammeln.

Die beiden, eben nach Neu Guinea abgehenden Forschungs-Expeditionen werden auch wohl etwas in dieser Richtung etwas leisten nach meinen besonderen Instructionen ,

about the Rodophyllis dedicated to her and sent her the specimen in order to encourage her to further collecting.

You would not believe, respected friend, how difficult it is for me to stir up interest anywhere in Australia generally for the collecting of plants, and then also to keep the interest alive !

It requires thousands of letters to attain something. Among the very few exceptions in this regard is Mr Bracebridge Wilson; he has only just sent at the beginning of this month his yields of algae for this year that I immediately have forwarded on to you.

will significantly enlarge my geographical enumeration, for which I am very obliged to you. Unfortunately the printing of the Supplement list of Australian Evasculares has still not begun for the 12th volume of the Fragmenta.

Fragmenta was discontinued after the first fascicle of vol. 12 (B82.12.03), and no supplementary list was published.

I shall ask all coastal collectors to continue to collect algae.

Both the exploring expeditions just departing for New Guinea will also probably get something in this line after my particular instruction .

M's instructions for the expedition led by Captain Everill included 'Not to miss collecting seaweeds and fresh-water weeds, whenever the opportunity presents itself' (B85.07.11, p. 64). The other expedition to which M refers was probably that led by H. O. Forbes.
