It gives me great pleasure, highly esteemed Professor, to be able to send you with this mail this year's algal harvest of Professor J. Bracebridge Wilson from Western Port,
1
Vic.
just arrived at my place. Numbers 1-80, but 36 vacant, also some named by him, among them the splendid for which Western Port has remained the only locality on the coast of Victoria for the last 25 years.
Mr Wilson was out during the Christmas and New Year holidays with his trawling apparatus and his own boat for these algae, therefore has also this year again had significant trouble and expense because of that; perhaps you could honour him by acceptance of him as Corresponding Member in the honourable old physiographical society there, and so encourage even more to further collecting.
2
Wilson was never elected a member of the Physiographical Society in Lund.
Have you done anything with ?
3
Chlorokoryne ? However, this fresh water alga was only formally described in Pascher (1939), pp. 529-32, and may not be the organism for which M used .
Among this year's algae of Mr Wilson are several quite new to me ; unfortunately he has sent mostly only single specimens.
I am making up a model collection of edible Australian fungi for the London Colonial Exhibition;
4
Colonial and Indian Exhibition, London, 1886. In Class 11, 'General application of the arts of drawing and modelling', M had three exhibits, the first of which was 'Glass case containing 36 Wax Models of Victorian Fungs' (Colonial and Indian Exhibition, London 1886. Catalogue of exhibits in the Victorian court, 1886, Melbourne. p. 30.
for which the Icones selectae Hymenomycetum of the celebrated Fries, which the Academy of Science in Stockholm has published and which I have acquired by purchase,
5
A copy of Fries (1867-84) is in the Library at MEL.
are very much of use.
Respectfully and wishing you every good thing.
