Herewith, dear Sir Joseph, I send an Acrostichum from the higher mountains of New Guinea, which appears to me new and very distinct; - still it seems better, that I should submit it to Kew for comparison, where anyhow it will prove of some value as regards locality. I should like it named A. Gulliveri in honor of Mr Th Gulliver F L S., Telegraph-Master of Townsville,

who spent over £150 (very partly only recovered money) in obtaining collections of plants and anthropologic articles from the Astrolabe mountain through Mr Edelfelt.

The only surviving letters from Hooker to M in 1885 dated the 17th of a month are J. Hooker to M 17 June 1885 (in this edition as 85-06-17a) and J. Hooker to M, 17 August 1885; the letter of 17 June contained a list of ferns, which has not been found.
