I am anxious to introduce if possible the

into this Settlement, and during my administration of the Government of Lagos was made fully alive to the interest you took in the extension of its growth to these parts.
2. This Island is low lying and sandy and can be compared geologically to Lagos where different kinds of the
Eucalyptus

were successfully introduced.
3. Our great difficulty here is the water supply which contains much salt.
4. I am unaware whether any kind of
Eucalyptus

has been found to answer in swampy grounds somewhat affected by the tide, and consequently Salt water.
5. May I invite your kind help and cooperation in the matter of the supply of such seeds as you may deem most likely to succeed. I would be glad to receive a supply in time to take advantage of the approaching rains which will begin on July and end about early or middle November.
