Mon cher collègue,
J'ai recu avec beaucoup de plaisir votre Xe et dernier fascicule de l'Eucalyptographia. C'est le complement d'un beau et important volume de botanique descriptive. Maintenant je vous souhaite assez de santé pour faire une autre monographie dans ce genre. Malheursement Mr Naudin m'ecrit que vous avez été indisposé. J'espère que c'etait une chose passagère dont vous êtes remis.
Vous m'avez aussi envoyé quatre opuscules sur pages détachées, dont je vous suis fort obligé.
Je ne connais pas grande nouvelle botanique à vous mander.
Roeper est mort à Rostock agé de plus de 84 ans. Il avait débuté dans la science par des travaux très originaux — surtout celui sur les inflorescences. Je l'ai beaucoup vu autrefois quand il était professeur à Bâle. Il possedait l'herbier de Lamarck, qui se trouve maintenant à Rostock, localité assez en dehors du chemin des naturalistes. Le Grand Duc l'a donné à l'Université.

I have received with much pleasure your Xth and last fascicle of the Eucalyptographia.

It is the completion of a beautiful and important volume of descriptive botany. Now I wish you health enough to do another monograph of this kind. Unhappily, Mr Naudin has written to me that you have been unwell. I hope this was a passing thing from which you are recovered.
You have also sent me four pamphlets on detached pages for which I am much obliged.
I don't have great botanical news to send you.
Roeper has died at Rostock, more than 84 years old. He started out in the science with some very original works, especially that on inflorescences. I saw him a lot in former times when he was professor at Basle. He had Lamarck's herbarium which is now at Rostock, a place well out of the way of naturalists. The Grand Duke has given it to the University.
