M's letter was forwarded to the Victorian Commissioners for the Colonial and Indian Exhibition, which was to be held in London in 1886. A new edition of M's 'Select Plants' was issued at the end of 1885 (B85.12.03) but in his preface to this, dated August 1885, M makes no mention of the work's appearance being connected with the Exhibition.
