Geehrter Herr

Den 25tn November sandte ich an Mssrs Watson & Scull, Thames Street, London eine Blechbüchse mit dem folgenden Inhalt: Herbarium von Eichen No 0 , kleinblättrig, No 0 , grossblättrig, No 1: immergrüne Eiche. (Das Blatt, welches ich in meiner letzten Sendung per Post als No 1 an Sie absandte, gehört zu No 4 ; ferner von No 2, No 4 & No 5; und Eicheln von No 0 kleinblättrig, von No 2, 3, 4 & 5, auch einige Gallwepsel von .

Meine Auslagen bis dato in Remessen per Post und Blechbüchse nach England (Seefracht &c), so wie gratificationen an die Leute, welche mir die Eicheln bringen erlangen die Summa von $7.50 = £1½.

In einigen Tagen erwarte ich Samen von Fichten u Tannen und von Eichen, die zwischen Tannenwäldern vorkommen 8-10.000 F. über Meeresfläche.

Von Eiche No 3, ausser einem Blatte konnte ich noch kein Exemplar für's Herbarium bekommen, hoffe ich es aber in Bälde zu empfangen.

Der neue President Porfirio Diaz hat den 1tn Dez. die Zügel der Regierung ergriffen und ist zu erwarten, dass die Naturwissenschaften besser gepflegt werden, als bei seinem Vorgänger, der keinen anderen Gedanken hatte, als sich zu bereichern.

Herr Mariano Barcena geht zur Ausstellung in New Orleans als Commissair der Mexikanischen Regierung. Ich werde aufpassen, ob etwas erhebliches über Nutzpflanzen publicirt wird, um Ihnen eine Copie zukommen zu lassen.

as No 1 belongs to No 4 ; further of No 2, No 4 & No 5 and acorns of No 0 small leaved, of No 2, 3, 4 & 5 also some gall wasps from .

My outlays to date in remissions per post and tin box to England (sea freight &c) as well as gratuities to the people who bring me the acorns reach the sum of $7.50 = £1½.

In a few days I expect seeds of pines and firs and of oaks that occur between fir forests 8-10,000 feet above sea level.

Of oak No 3, apart from a leaf I could still not get a specimen for the herbarium, however, I hope to receive it soon.

The new President Porfirio Diaz has taken the reins of government on 1 December and it is to be expected that the natural sciences will be better looked after than by his predecessor, who had no other thought than to enrich himself.

The World's Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exhibition, 1884-5, celebrating the centenary of 'shipment of the first bale of cotton from America' (Fairall (1885), p. 10).
