Melbourne,
13 Nov.1884
The honorable Graham Berry &c
Chief Secretary.
Sir,
I have the honor to solicit, that you will be pleased to allow me, to increase the wages of junior Assistant James Minchin by one shilling daily from the 1st Dec. 1884. He has been in the employ of the Department since the 1 Febr. 1879, and he is now 24 years old. His present wages are 6/6d per diem, and these are paid out of the Contingency-Vote, which includes "Wages for Junior Assistants in Office and bot. Museum."

Berry approved M's request on 17 November and the file was sent to M on the same day 'to note approval'. The next day M returned the file 'with best thanks'. The file was subsequently sent to the Commissioners of Audit for their information.
I have the honor to be, Sir,
your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller.
