MS found with a specimen of Owenia acidula (MEL 118868). MS annotation by M: 'Owenia acidula, FvM sent by Mr J. Duff. Nov 1884'. MS has been cut along the edges, close to the text, so as to leave just the description of the plant, and some text may have been lost.
"Gruie, Warrongan or Colaine" are the names locally applied to this tree in the Brewarrina district.

North-western NSW.
It resembles the Pepper tree ( ) in appearance and is very handsome when in fruit. Its branches spread from the trunk to a height of about 8 to 10 ft from the ground, and it forms a good shade tree.
It grows on the plains amongst White Box, Wilga, Yarren, and other trees, in dry red clayey loam. Bark dark coloured, slightly furrowed. Fruit very acrid. […]
