An abridged version of this letter, to '… which I ascended in 1853.', was published
in Barnard (1904), p. 24. See also Gillbank (1992) and Home (2014).
Let me thank you, dear Mr. Stirling, for the trouble you have taken in marking a copy
of your districts map geologically for me. Thus it has become exceedingly valuable
for me. What is called now Mt. Feathertop is my Mt. Hotham of 1854, and what is named
Mt. Bogong I called then already Mt. Latrobe. My rough observations made them higher
in proportion to Mt. Buller, which I ascended in 1853.

I hope you will be able to add to the records of our Alps-flora this summer, and will
discover yet some secluded novel plant, to bear your name. Mt Kosciusko seems to remain
in some portions (those farthest away from the track) yet botanically unexplored
Let me hope that you are well and happy.
Regardfully your
Ferd. von Mueller.
