Let me thank you, dear Louise, for your kind letter
and the expressions of your sympathetic sentiments. I was for two weeks on a departmental
tour in the Wimmera-country;
but the weather was so cold and mostly so wet, that I did not profit in my health
from the journey. I send you a volume of my works, as you express a desire to possess
some of my publications. Perhaps I sent it before. In that case, this book will prove
useful as a donation to some of your friends. When writing to your dear mother, tell
her to let me know, when the quarter's payment for Ellie's
schooling is due again, so that I may send the sum, (I think it is £12.10/-) timely.

Louise Wehl's younger sister Henrietta, generally known as Ettie or Ellie, was 15
years old at this time (Dowe et al. (2020), p. 3).
If you learn of any vacancy in the Telegraph-Department nearer your mother's place,
you might telegraph to me, and I would at once use what little influence I may have
with Mr Todd
to secure it for you.

Glad of prospects for more plants from you and George. Your brothers and sisters perhaps
will look also a little more yet into the spring-vegetation about Lake Bonney,
and Mr. Harris might pick up occasionally something at Silvertown.
I can make return-sendings.
