The author is assumed to be M, since no collaborator named on the cover of the issue has the initials ‘F. M.’ and M subsequently made a more detailed report on this topic; see M to Gartenflora, October 1884 (in this edition as 84-10-00a). (F. M.)
The flora of the state of Perak in the British East Indies is as yet almost unknown, so it is of great interest that the missionaries Mr. Tenison Woods and Mr. Scortechini are exploiting it now. The latter was already busily engaged in botany while still officiating in South Queensland. The curator of the Botanical Garden in Singapore, Mr. N. Cantley, has also joined with the two gentlemen mentioned for the same purpose, so that soon beautiful and new interesting plants from there are likely to be introduced into our gardens. (F.M.)
