Die Sachen für Sie, edler Freund, gehen heute an Bord des Dampfschiffs Chimborazzo, um an Mess. Watson & Scull versandt zu werden, welche beauftragt sind, solche frei bei Ihnen abzuliefern. Beigepackt ist ein Kästchen, eine Steinaxt von der Pfingst-Insel enthaltend, dieses Kästchen bitte ich Sie an Hr. Medicinalrath Prof. Dr. Virchow in Berlin zu senden für das dortige anthropologische Museum. Vielleicht fügen Sie Ihrem Briefe an diesen hochberühmten Gelehrten die besondere Notiz bei, dass die Steinaxt von den Whitsunday-Islands sei, wo die Eingebornen noch im "Steinalter" leben! Dann befindet sich unter Ihren Sachen ein Kästchen Algen in Alcohol für Hr. Prof. Schmitz in Bonn, adressirt an Hr. Prof. Strassburger. Diese Algen sind für morphologische Untersuchungen erwünscht.

Ich werde wohl keine Fehlbitte thun, diese Kleinigkeiten weiter zu besorgen.

The things for you, noble friend, will go today on board the steamship Chimborazzo to be despatched to Messrs. Watson & Scull, who are instructed to deliver it to you free of charge. Included is a small box containing a stone axe from the Whitsunday Islands .

I ask you to send this small box to Professor Virchow in Berlin for the anthropological museum there. Perhaps you would include in your letter to this highly celebrated savant the special note that the axe is from the Whitsunday Islands, where the Aborigines still live in the Stone Age! Then among your things is a small box of algae in alcohol for Prof. Schmitz in Bonn, addressed to Professor Strassburger.
