I am not allowed, dear Mr. Wilson, to go out much; so perhaps you will excuse me for
asking by this note your opinion, whether there is any difficulty of putting a suitable
young person, found by me, in the place of Mr. Henry, and whether more is required
than to report it to the office of the C.S. the appointment being one by wages only.
From Dr. Rudall's certificate you will see, that Mr. Henry can not continue his office-work.
But as he is pennyless through illness &c., I should like to send him out for a few
months as collector of plants for which he would be paid out of the vote for the purpose.

See notes to M to G. Berry, 25 July 1884 (in this edition as 84-07-25a).
2
M's earlier suggestion that Henry be paid a gratuity had been rejected; see notes
to M to T. Wilson, 28 July 1884. No decision on this new suggestion is recorded on the file.
Meanwhile he has written or is writing to his relatives in France for succour (monetarily).
Kindly write me a few lines in reply, advising me how to act, as any moment Henry
might get worse again.
Regardfully your
Ferd. von Mueller.
