Letter not found. The text given here is a footnote to 'Heredity in the colour of the eyes of the human race', Australasian medical gazette , April 1885, p. 161. A. de Candolle (1884) is the published version of a paper that he read at the meeting of the Société de Physique et d'Histoire Naturelle de Genéve held on 3 August 1884. The present item is dated to August 1884 as the earliest likely date on which de Candolle could have sent M a copy of his paper as a preprint, assuming that it was printed soon after it was delivered. No covering letter from M to Rudall has been found.
