Document is a circular sent to heads of 15 branches of the Chief Secretary's Office.
Memo.
With reference to the return
required by Section 20 of the Public Service Act 1883 I beg now to state that since
returning the proofs for correction on the 6th instant I have been furnished with
more definite instructions as to the wishes of the Public Service Board in the matter,
and accordingly return the proof for further correction.
2
See T. Wilson to M, 6 June 1884 (in this edition as 84-06-06a).
It is desired that the return should contain the names of all who were in the Service
on the 14th February last, including all who were actually employed on that date and
excluding any who have been appointed subsequently and the description of duties is
to be a description of the duties performed at that time by the officer concerned.
In the column headed "No of years in service" the length of service is to be expressed
in years and completed twelfth parts of a year; thus a service of six years three
months & twenty nine days will appear as 6 3/12 years.
In case the proof just returned can conveniently be further corrected in these details
I enclose a second copy of the proof.
I beg to request that the final proof may be returned to this office without delay.

Copy is not signed, but would have been sent by the Under Secretary.
