Sir,
Mr G. Day,
Lecturer on Botany, suggests that different varieties of grasses and medicinal herbs
be sown, in order to afford to Students of The School practical facilities for the
study of agricultural and medical botany.
1
George Porter Day.
I am requested to ask you to be so very kind as to favour the institution with a collection
of such seeds as you may consider suitable for the purpose.
2
Day's annual report states: 'Additions to the garden plants are being made from time
to time by Baron Von Mueller, who has kindly presented to The School collections of
seeds of medicinal and leguminous fodder-plants, and a large number of valued grasses,
all of which are growing in the garden, and should prove both interesting and useful
to agriculturists and graziers generally' (School of Mines Ballarat: annual report 1884 (1885), p. 36).
I have the honor to be
Sir,
Your most obedient Servant
Andw Berry
