Dr Mueller
Sir
The enclosed small branches and leaves are from some very shady and ornamental gum
trees near Sale. These trees though like the Red Gum in colour of bark and general
appearance are unlike them in being much more shady, and having a brighter green foliage.
The tree does not grow more than half as high as the common Red Gum; in the majority
of specimens the but
seperates into large spreading limbs nine or ten feet from the ground, and with its
bright green spreading, & thick foliage it certainly forms the most shady & pleasing
Eucalyptus that I know of except perhaps the Red Gum of Western Australia on the road
from Albany to Perth.

butt?
As many people would be glad to cultivate this tree I have ventured to send you the
enclosed in the hope that you may be able to oblige us by telling us the name as we
can then perhaps procure plants, or see more about it in your work on the Eucalypts
which we have here

I remain, Sir,
Yours respectfully,
