Only a few days I am back from the Forest-place,
dear Dr Cox, where I did my office-work for some time in the hope, that the deep
seated bronchial inflammation might become subdued by the mild and equable air, a
hope which but very scantily is realized. I have made it one of my first engagements
after my return to examine more closely your hybrid
, and now give you the result. You will observe, that I have not named this tree after
yourself; if I did so, the name would be sure to be superseded. I will however take
the earliest opportunity, to bestow your honored name on some really distinct new
Australian species of plant. Perhaps you like to make some additions to my notes on
your unique
. Will you kindly bring this paper before the L.S. of N.S.W.?
I would also ask you, kindly to compare a list of Mr Bäuerlen's plants, gathered
far south in New South Wales (published in the December number of the L.S. there
), with the array of names of southern plants given this time. My copy of the last
publication of your L.S. there is mislaid; and very likely some of the plants, noted
now by me, ought to be struck out as enumerated already on the former occasion.
