Letter not found. The text given here is from a letter 'from a correspondent' to the Daily telegraph (Sydney), 19 April 1884, p. 9.
[The other day, a few minutes after I had shot a brush turkey, in the dense brush of the Upper Orara River,
2
NSW, near Grafton.
I came upon a beautiful flowering tree which, with a large experience among the brushes of the colony, I had never seen before.

The omitted text is a description of a tree with large scarlet flowers, almost certainly Stenocarpus sinuatus, a specimen of which, recorded as collected by Miss E. Thornton at the Orara River in 1884, is now in the National Herbarium of Victoria (MEL 676462).
I have sent specimens to Mr. Moore of the Botanical Gardens, Sydney, and to Baron von Mueller, of Melbourne.]
