Allow me the privilege, dear Sir Richard, to introduce to you the honorable Francis
Gregory, a distinguished geographic Explorer in Australia, where he has also spent
his boyhood already. He is a Crown Member of the legislative council of Queensland,
and has shared for 1/4 of a century in advancing the interest of that portion of her
Majesty’s Dominions. Mr Gregory, on his first visit to Europe with his family, is
particularly eager to have the honor of paying homage personally to the great Leaders
in science; hence, I feel sure, you will be pleased to meet him, especially as he
won laurels in the fields of Geography himself.
Perhaps, my honored and venerable friend, you will show this distinguished and enlightened
Gentleman the favor, to give him a special introduction to the great national Museum
of Natural History over which you presided almost through a generations time so gloriously.
Let me remain,
dear Sir Richard,
with profound devotion your
Ferd. von Mueller.
