Allow me to ask, dear Mr Crawford, whether you have any spare specimens left of the
Gums and Resins, exhibited by you in Calcutta,
and for which — I am glad to see — a Gold medal was awarded. Should you have any
of the sorts of gums and resins left, would you kindly let me have some for scientific
tests?

International Exhibition, Calcutta, 1883-4. Crawford exhibited 'gums and resins from
the blood-wood, apple tree [probably an Angophora or Eucalyptus species, several of which had the common name of 'apple'], white gum and grass-tree',
and also 'white haricot beans'; he was awarded a gold medal for 'gums proper' and
a certificate of the third class for the beans (Calcutta International Exhibition
(1885), vol. 1, part II, pp. 97, 121, and vol. 1, part I, pp. 401, 402 respectively).
See also Sydney morning herald, 12 March 1884, p. 10, which included Crawford's Gold Medal among the list of awards.
Respectfully
your
Ferd. von Mueller.
