ADELAIDE.
Janry. 26, 1884
My Dear Baron
I have been back from the R.
Murray some few days, but have not been in fit condition to work. While on the Murray,
the weather was extremely oppressive, and I am not yet recovered from its effects.

River.
I trust that you are better. On my return there were awaiting me two parcels of dried
plants and a letter from you,
the recommendation conveyed by the latter,
re
my candidature to Royal Society, has been acted upon. You have given yourself much
trouble in promoting my candidature, and I can express only my sincere thanks in return.

M was Tate's principal sponsor for election to the Royal Society of London, for which
he was a candidate for three successive years, 1884-6, but was never elected.
The gift of 88 species of dried plants is a very valuable one to me and fills nearly
as many voids in my Herbarium. A few of the species I gathered on the Murray, just
lately; should I return the duplicate specimens to your Herbarium
Touching the enclosed plant, which I send just as received a few days ago, I cannot
approach by way of identification. As the specimen is unique, it has not been looked
at minutely. Probably you will recognize it at sight
I beg to remain
yrs very truly
Ralph Tate
