Letter not found. The text given here is from Daily Alta California (San Francisco), 29 March 1884, p. 1. The letter is dated to January as the latest likely date that the package could have been sent to have been announced at the meeting of the State Horticultural Society held on 28 March 1884.
[A large collection of native tree seeds of Chile was received … Another collection was from Baron Von Mueller, Government Botanist of the Province of Queensland.

Victoria. It is not known why the mistaken attribution was made; the Colonial Botanist of Queensland at this time was F. M. Bailey.
