It was a pleasing surprise to me, dear Mr French,
to receive this morning the splendid pictural card with your and your young son's
wishes for a happy festive time to me.
I reciprocate your kind wishes most sincerely, and as you both have doubtless a long
life of happiness before you, I imagine, that you will celebrate Christmas and Newyear
with your florishing family at very many and — I trust — always joyful anniversaries.

Charles French Snr.

Card not found. The 'young son' would have been Charles H. French, who had recently commenced working
in the Melbourne Herbarium.
With kind regards
Ferd. von Mueller.
I am obliged to you for the packing of the zool. specimens. When ready Mr Luehmann
will arrange for the Shipment by Clipper (White's) with an other box at my cottage.
