Sir,
I have to apologise to you for the delay which has taken place in replying to your
letter of 6th ult.
It should have received immediate attention, but for the severe illness of the Hon.
Secretary, Mr La Meslée, who is still confined to his house. The Administrative Council
desire me to offer you its best thanks for your generous donation of £10, which you
will perceive by the enclosed minute re the New Guinea Exploration Fund may be placed
to the credit of such fund in the Federal Bank either at Sydney or Melbourne. The
Council also accepts, with pleasure your offer to elaborate for the Society any material
concerning the flora of New Guinea, and in the event of the projected Expedition being
successfully carried out, it is to be hoped that you will have the opportunity of
making known to Science many new and interesting specimens of the flora of the Great
Papua.
