Wahrscheinlich eine neue Art, die ich dann M. Holtzei nennen würde; ich will selbige in den nächsten Tagen genau untersuchen, u Ihnen das Resultat mittheilen. Ich hätte gern Früchte davon.

See M to M. Holtze, 29 October 1883, where, in what appears to be the promised follow-up, M proposes to name this species . The present MS is dated to October 1883 on this basis. The specimen MEL 270074, bearing Holtze's number 307, also bears M's label with the name Uvaria Holtzeana, which was described as U. holtzei in B83.07.03, p. 175. Holtze apears to have sent different specimens with the same number at different times if he considered the species to be the same, and in this case there is an undated specimen, MEL 270075, that was possibly sent separately as it has Holtze's label with the number '307' and the name 'Uvaria holtzei FvM | Port Darwin'.

Das schöne Dendrobium, lieber Herr Holtze, was Sie in letzter Sendung als 336 mir zukommen liessen ist unzweifelhaft D. dicuphum.

M reported on this orchid as Dendrobium bigibbum in B68.02.03, p. 119, but then re-named it as D. dicuphum in B73.03.02, p. 28 when he recognised it as different from D. bigibbum figured in W. Hooker (1827-64), vol. 82, tab. 4898 (described by Lindley & Paxton (1850-3), vol. 3, pp. 25-6).

Ich beschrieb es im Jahre 1868 vom Liverpool River; seitdem habe ich es von Niemand erhalten, u erst jetzt nach den von Ihnen gut getrockneten Blumen lässt sich davon Farbe beschreiben. Sie sollten versuchen diese Epiphytische Orchidee in europäische Gewächshäuser zu bringen, da man dort so sehr nach neuen Orchideen [ringt]. Wie auffallend arm Arnhem's Land in Orchideen ist! Ich selbst könnte einen Kasten voll "Pseudobulbs" davon gebrauchen gleichzeitig mit denen von D. Foelschei, u würde Samen von Küchen-Pflanzen oder sonst irgend etwas dort Erwünschtes im Austausch senden, soweit Solches in meinem Bereich liegt.

and since then I have not received it from anybody, and only now could the colour be described from your so well dried flowers. You should try to introduce this epiphytic orchid into European glasshouses, as such new orchids are in great demand there. How conspicuously poor in orchids is Arnhem Land!

I myself could do with a case full of pseudobulbs of them, and at the same time of those of D. foelschei, and would send seeds of kitchen plants or something else wanted there in exchange, in so far as such lies in my field.
