[The object of the meeting was to hear and discuss a paper read by M. L. L. Smith on Forest Culture and Eucalyptus Trees. Mr. Smith handed in a note from Baron von Mueller regretting his unavoidable absence, and forwarding a work by an American author on a similar subject.

Probably the introductory chapter of E. Cooper (1876), entitled 'Forest culture and Australian gum trees', the text of a lecture delivered by Cooper in 1875 at Santa Barbara, California.
