Melbourne
6/9/83.
Mons. E. A. Pesoli,
Acting Consul for France.
Sir.
Of the seeds, desired by Mons. Carrière, the Gov. Inspector of Forests in Paris, only , E. obliqua and can at this moment be supplied; but as E. tereticornis and E. rostrata are only varieties of one species, I have doubled the quantity of the seeds of the latter for your sending, especially as this tree is one of the most valuable of all Eucalypts. This you will see on reference to my "descriptive Atlas of the Eucalypts"

B79.13.11 and subsequent parts.
and to the volume "select plants for industrial culture and naturalisation".

B81.13.10.
It seems to me, that M. Carrière, (with whose name I am familiar since many years as that of an author of a most valuable work on Coniferae

Carrière (1855).
), will be in a better position to judge, which particular species of Eucalyptus are most eligible for his cultures in any part of South France or Algeria, after this distinguished Officer has obtained the works alluded to.
Ready at any time, to render to the Great Government, which you so well represent, any services, and continuing the interest in the "reboisements"

reafforestations.
which I took since the last 25 years, I remain, dear Consul, your very regardful
Ferd. von Mueller.
