Riverine grazier
(Hay, NSW), 8 September 1883, p. 2 (B83.09.06). It is introduced by: '
A gentleman in Hay has received a letter from Baron Von Mueller, the great botanist
of the Victorian Government, in which he says:—'. The gentleman in Hay' has not been
identified. The letter is dated to the beginning of September as the latest date it
is likely to have been written to have been reported in this edition of the newspaper.

Named for the rivers of the same names in south-western Qld and north-western NSW
which, when flowing, are tributaries of the Darling River.

The quotation from M's letter is followed by '
We trust the settlers in these district will endeavour to oblige the Baron, as it
is important for him to obtain such plants in order to complete his works, the value
of which are very great — a value that will become greater every year. The journals
in the districts mentioned might do favor of copying this paragraph.' (Grammatical
errors are in the source text.)
No reprints of the paragraph have been found, however M was making many such appeals
for small spring annuals through letters to newspapers, with specific requests, for
example, B83.07.04, or by issuing circulars, for example B83.09.04. Some were made
to individuals, for example M to R. Tate, 14 August 1883.
