Dated to 1883 on the basis of M's annotation.
Dear Sir
I send five more specimens of Desmid.
I have collected many more, but on subjecting them to the microscope, I find them
to be merely duplicates of others already sent.

Desmidieae? M was evidently sending these microscopic forms to Friedrich Kützing to
name. There are several specimens said to have come from Meredith, presumably from
Johnson, in the list in F. Kützing to M, 10 September 1882.
Of the floral specimens No 4 was taken from a pond.
I see by the Argus that their New Guinea correspondent intends forwarding a number
of fresh plants to you.
