I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your esteemed favor of yesterday's
date accompanying Copy of the lecture you were kind enough to deliver at this Institution
last year, translated into the "Geographische Mittheilungen," of Gotha, Germany.
— The Honorable the President and members of the Council will I am sure be highly
gratified to learn that the lecture has been considered sufficiently important to
find a place in a Journal of such high repute. — I shall bring the matter under the
notice of the Council at their next meeting — in the meantime permit me on their behalf
to tender you their acknowledgements for the many and valuable services you have rendered
to the interests of science generally and to this Institution particularly. I forward
under separate cover copy of the Lectures
