MS is a printed circular which, together with various other documents relating to
the founding of the Victorian Branch of the Royal Geographical Society of Australasia,
has been inserted at the front of the Branch's first minute book.
95 Collins St. West,
Melbourne, 8th August, 1883.
Sir —
At a recent Meeting of the Administrative Council of the above Society, held in Sydney,
the Hon. Secretary (Mr E. M. La Meslee) suggested that the Society's supporters in
this and the adjoining colonies should be invited to form associated bodies under
the Society's Constitution.
That suggestion having been unanimously adopted, Mr La Meslee has asked me (amongst
others) to assist in such a movement here.
As some one must take the initiative, and the matter seems to come fairly within the
scope of my pursuits, I take the liberty to invite your attendance at a preliminary
meeting of gentlemen favourable to Geographical Science in Australasia, to be held
at the Exchange, Collins St. West, Melbourne, on Monday, the 13th inst., at 4.30 p.m.
