Vor einigen Tagen schrieb ich Ihnen, lieber Herr Holtze, dass entweder Ihre letzten Sendungen gar nicht ankamen, oder die darauf bezüglichen Briefe an Sie verloren gingen. Im letzteren Falle sind die Pflanzen bereits inserirt in meine grosse Hauptsammlung, aus welcher ich die einzelnen Nummern nicht wieder herausfinden könnte, ohne monatelange Arbeit. Es bleibt also nichts übrig, als diejenigen Pflanzen, von welchen ich die Nummern noch nicht sandte, mir zu leihen; Sie werden solche sicher zurück erhalten; nur müsste auch Ihrerseits das sichere Herkommen durch eine bill of loding bekräftigt werden.

sümpfen müsste sich noch manches Neue finden. Ganz besonders mache ich Sie auch noch auf die Wichtigkeit aufmerksam, die allerkleinsten annuellen Pflänzchen zu sammeln, da darunter eben noch viel Neues sein wird.

Hr Schultz fand dort eine weich haarige Restiacea (eine Sorte von Rush), sammelte aber die Früchte nicht, was freilich von vielen anderen Sammlern versäumt wird. Diese Restiacea ist bisher nur von der Nähe Ihres Ortes bekannt, u konnte aus Fruchtmangel noch nicht sicher in das betreffende Genus untergebracht werden.

A few days ago I wrote to you,

M to M. Holtze, 22 July 1883.

dear Mr Holtze, that either your last consignments did not arrive at all, or the respective letters to you dealing with them were lost. In the latter case the plants have already been inserted into my large main collection, from which I could not find the individual numbers again without months of work. So there is simply no alternative than your lending me those plants of which I have not yet sent you the numbers. You can be assured of having them returned to you, but for your part you would have to ensure their safe arrival by taking out a bill of loading.

In your mangrove and jungle swamps much that is new could still be found. In particular I want to draw your attention to the importance of collecting the very smallest little annual plants, as there will still be many new things among them.

Mr Schultz found a restiacea there with soft hairs (a kind of rush),

but did not collect any fruit, something where unfortunately many other collectors are amiss. This restiacea is so far known only from the vicinity of your place, but because of the lack of fruit could not yet be placed with any certainty in its correct genus.
