It does you infinite credit, dear Professor, that you attend so strenuously to the
completion of the records of the South Australian Flora also, while your attention
is already so much occupied with your geologic researches. However you enjoy now the
ready means for wide travelling, while at my time
every
distance had to be done on
foot
or on
horseback
.
Surely some novelty will be among the plants from Lake Torrens,
altho' you must have been too early for the
spring
-
annuals
, which likely are very
numerous
there.

A very encouraging review of my "Census" from an Austrian scientific Journal
came by last mail, the only one I have yet seen. Of course I must be prepared for
criticism more or less unfavorable from those, who wish to keep up D.C.
system & B. & H. genera
rigorously, altho' I can foresee, that the Monoclamydeae will drag on their existence not beyond the end of this century, and the surprise
in the next century will be, that they became not much earlier defunct!

I am just finishing the 9th Decade of the Eucalyptography through the press;
after that I hope to make a grand progress with the residue of your plants. The Calcutta
Exhibition
however claims also just time of mine, and the correspondence is very heavy.
